Central Orthodox Youth ASSOCIATION (Ο.Υ.Α.Ν.).
The Nigerian Orthodox Youth Association was founded in the year 1998 by young active Orthodox adults. Since then the body has been committed to building the spiritual development of the young Orthodox community. Some of our Priests in our Archdiocese like Protopresbyter Fr. John Okolo were among the founders and sometime President of the Organization. The organization has 4000 registered members across our Archdiocese.
Objectives:
1. Spiritual Development: To cultivate a deeper relationship with God among young people through worship, prayer, and Bible study.
2. Community Building: To create a supportive and welcoming environment where young people can connect with each other and build lasting friendships.
3. Service and Outreach: Encouraging young people to serve their community and participate in outreach missions, both locally and globally.
4. Leadership Development: To identify and nurture future leaders within the Church by providing young people the opportunity to take responsibility and lead activities.
5. Life skills development: To equip young people with basic life skills, such as conflict resolution, communication and critical thinking, in a Christian context.
6. Weekly Meetings: To organize regular gatherings for association, worship and discussion of relevant issues.
7. Educational programs: To Implement Bible Study Groups, Workshops or Seminars focusing on spiritual and personal development.
8. Services: To plan and execute public works that allow young people to practice their faith.
9. Social activities: To Organize recreational events, such as “retreats”, camps and outings that promote companionship and reinforce relationships.
10. Guidance Opportunities: To facilitate programs where young people can be connected to adult mentors who can provide guidance and support.
11. Skills building activities: Workshops offering to teach practical skills such as public speaking, group creation and event planning.
12. Participation in ecclesiastical activities: To encourage young people to become involved in the wider ecclesiastical community, including worship ceremonies, special events and decision-making processes.
These goals and objectives can be adapted to meet the specific needs and context of the youth in any particular church or community. Regular evaluation and adjustment can help ensure that the organization remains relevant and impactful.
