His Eminence Archbishop Nikodemus of Nigeria undertook a three day pastoral visit to Abuja, the federal capital of Nigeria, during which he visited the Embassy of Greece.
The visit took place on Saturday, 31 October 2026, and marked His Eminence’s first official meeting with Ms Maria Spyrokosta, Chargée d’Affaires and Head of the Greek Diplomatic Mission in Nigeria. It also gave him the opportunity to meet the mission’s new members. During the visit, Mr Kostas Yfantis was sworn in as Greece’s new Honorary Consul in Lagos. This was an important occasion for the Greek community in Lagos and for relations between Greece and Nigeria.
Following the customary service of the Blessing of the Waters and the swearing-in ceremony, His Eminence welcomed Ms Spyrokosta to Nigeria and wished her a fruitful and successful mission. He then spoke warmly of Mr Yfantis and wished him every success in his new duties.
Among those present were His Majesty the Emir of Gombe and many guests from the Greek community and Nigerian society.
