On Monday, 27 April 2026, His Eminence Archbishop Nikodemus, Metropolitan of Nigeria, attended an official reception at the Residence of the German Embassy in Abuja, upon the personal invitation of Her Excellency the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Nigeria, Mrs. Annett Günther, on the occasion of the visit of the Federal Government Commissioner for Freedom of Religion or Belief, Mr. Thomas Rachel.
It is worth noting that His Eminence shares a longstanding personal friendship with Mr. Thomas Rachel and his wife from Berlin. Their meeting in Abuja took place in a particularly warm and cordial atmosphere, offering the joy of a personal reunion beyond the formal framework of the diplomatic reception.
Mr. Thomas Rachel holds the important position of Federal Government Commissioner for Freedom of Religion or Belief (Beauftragter der Bundesregierung für Religions- und Weltanschauungsfreiheit) within the German Government, while also serving in leading roles related to economic cooperation and development.
The reception was held in the beautiful gardens of the German Embassy in Abuja and brought together leaders of religious communities, representatives of various Churches, and members of the diplomatic community in Nigeria.
Following the reception, His Eminence had the honor and joy of continuing the meeting with the Ambassador, the distinguished guest, and members of the Embassy staff in a warm and personal atmosphere.
