Third-Year Memorial for late Metropolitan Alexander

On Sunday, 21 June 2026, at the Dependency of the Sacred Hesychasterion of the Transfiguration of the Savior (Saint Porphyrios of Kafsokalyvia) in Milesi, Attica, the three-year memorial service for the late Metropolitan Alexander of Nigeria was celebrated.

Participating in the Hierarchical Concelebration were Their Eminences Metropolitan Gregory of Cameroon, Metropolitan Nikephoros of Gortynos and Megalopolis, Metropolitan Nikodemus of Nigeria, as well as His Grace Bishop Nikodemus of Skopelos.

The homily was delivered by His Eminence Metropolitan Nikephoros of Gortynos and Megalopolis, who spoke on the message of the Gospel reading of the day.

Following the memorial service, His Eminence Metropolitan Nikodemus of Nigeria spoke with emotion about his late predecessor, emphasizing his ministry and contribution to the Mission of Nigeria, as well as his role in the foundation and growth of the Orthodox Church in the country.

He particularly stressed that the memory of the blessed Hierarch remains alive in the hearts of the clergy and faithful who knew and worked alongside him, while also referring to the missionary vision of the Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa, which the late Metropolitan Alexander served with devotion.

At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy and the Holy Memorial Service, His Eminence Metropolitan Nikodemus of Nigeria chanted a Trisagion at the crypt beneath the Cemetery Church of the Resurrection of the Lord, where the mortal remains of the late Hierarch have been laid to rest.

Afterwards, through the hospitality of the Holy Hesychasterion, refreshments were offered to all those in attendance.
